Closure of Queensway footbridge

The Queensway pedestrian footbridge bridge will be closed and no longer in use from Thursday 31 March 2022. This is ahead of work starting on the removal of the bridge, as part of the first phase of work on the Better Queensway regeneration scheme.

The bridge is being closed under a temporary traffic regulation order (TRRO), as the project team await permission from the Secretary of State to remove the bridge.

We are aware that the Queensway footbridge currently connects part of the estate to Essex Street car park and serves as one of the main walkways to Chichester Road, Southchurch Road and the High Street. As part of this closure, it is important you use a safe, alternative route, so we recommend you use the crossing outside the Queensway Surgery, next to Short Street, or use the pedestrian underpass near Sutton Road for the time being.
