Looking ahead: What’s next for BQ?
Porters Place Southend-on-Sea LLP is committed to bringing the residents of the Queensway estate and the wider Southend community, not just a ‘Better Queensway (BQ)’, but a brilliant new Queensway.
We have seen some great progress made on the future plans for BQ this year with the approval of the overall masterplan and highway changes in Spring; works to check the condition of the grounds are now complete and plans for phase one of the re-development are in progress. Questionnaires have also been issued to everyone who has a legal interest in the Queensway estate and properties included in the regeneration area, to find out their property interests and answer any questions they may have.
With this activity now taking place, we can look ahead to 2022 when work will begin on the new Better Queensway. Residents and neighbours will notice works start on site at what is currently the temporary Essex Street car park as the area will be turned into the first blocks of much needed, new homes. This first phase will include properties to re-house the existing secure tenants and leaseholders from Quantock, subject to their housing need, which will be the first block to be demolished. For this to happen, and to keep the site safe, we will be placing some fencing around the site next Spring. Further details about how these works will affect residents and neighbours and the timings for such works, will be announced in due course.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about future works, please do contact our Resident Community Activation Officer, James Colwell, on [email protected]
